Scientists have made a major discovery using the Large Hadron Collider, the world's largest atom-smasher, a $5 billion feat of engineering built to re-create conditions in the universe just after the big bang:

That it needs to be shut down for repairs.

Seems to be the ongoing saga that is the LHC. Another year before it ends the world.

You know what? It is timely really. Since its getting closer to December 23, 2012! ;)
