Julia Gillard: Road to The Lodge - ABC News
Julia Gillard becomes the first woman to be elected as Australia's Prime Minister.
Ms Gillard became Prime Minister in June, having seized power from Kevin Rudd in the Labor party room. At the time she recognised she did not have a mandate from the Australian people and so she would not move into the Lodge until she had earned their trust at an election.
The key independents' decision to back a Labor minority government clears the way for her to move into the Prime Minister's residence.
Forgive my naivete on this. But I don't believe Julia Gillard was elected as Australia's Prime Minister. And, since she stated that until she was elected by the Australian public, she would not move into The Lodge in Canberra, I expect it will remain vacant for three years?
Yes? No?
Anyone who contends to argue this point should visit the Australian Electoral Commission website and check the facts ;)
