Red Bull Air Race Axed - WA Today

Redbull
Perth's flagship tourism event, the Red Bull Air Race, has been cancelled.

Tourism WA, the state's peak events body, has been informed that all stages of the global event have been axed for 2011.

It is unclear if the race will have a future beyond next year, but the state's peak tourism body is already looking for a replacement event.

The race was first held in Perth in 2006 and managed to attract hundreds of thousands of people to the Swan River foreshore.

Its a shame, it was a unique event and put Perth on the world-map for a couple of days of the year.

No butts about it, Venus is in her own orbit - The Punch

YOU would be forgiven for thinking you had front row seats at a Paris fashion runway rather than courtside at this year’s French Open.

The tennis couture displayed by the women has left nothing to the imagination and left fans to ask the question ``Why?’’

Has women’s tennis become so boring that the players feel they have to wear provocative costumes or eye catching—and just plain wrong—outfits to get attention?

Let's face it. You won't see photo's like that on this blog very often. But, like a lot of people, I will do anything to get the page-views ;)

PNG police hunt for more than 50 men after prison escape

Liam Fox, PNG correspondent

Last Updated: 18 hours 4 minutes ago

Police in Papua New Guinea are hunting more than 50 men who broke out of a prison near the capital, Port Moresby.

The breakout happened while police were busy controlling the crowd at a rugby league match between Australian and PNG in Port Moresby on Sunday afternoon.

Knowing how violent the streets of Port Morseby can be, and how serious the escape of more than 50 prisoners really is, I still had a giggle at hearing about this story.

The story, though, has changed somewhat...prison guards were "patrolling" at the rugby match is somewhat at a distance to the initial reports that the guards wanted to "watch" the match, leaving the prison unattended.

Giggles aside, we hope that all the criminals are successfully recaptured, and maybe next time the match can be better organised - security-wise ;)

Interesting side-note is the fact it was the Prime Ministers' Australian team vs PNG's - still its worth the giggle ;)
